The receptionist is the first person that a potential client sees when they enter the salon. What is the feel of the salon, the type of client the salon wants to attract? If you're looking for an edgier, more urban client, the receptionist should be trendy and up to the minute. The upper class professional woman? The receptionist should probably wear a suit, or adhere to a business professional dress code. If the salon is more casual, jeans may be appropriate.
In my salon, we have a more casual feel. Denim is allowed, as long as it is clean and pressed - no matter how stylish distressed denim is, it's not okay for work! We don't allow any clothing that is slutty or revealing (we have quite a few senior clients), no "tracksuit materials", and no skirts more than 3 fingers over the knee. I also don't allow flip-flops or crocs. Plastic shoes are NEVER okay for work, and the flip-flop noise bugs the hell out of me. Our dress code rules are posted for both the stylists and the front end staff, and it looks pretty much like this:
If you wouldn't wear it in front of your grandma, don't wear it here.
If you'd wear it to the gym, don't wear it here.
If you'd wear it to mow the lawn, don't wear it here.
If your shoes will float in water, don't wear them here.
If bending over will show boobs or buns, don't wear it here.
We really don't have any problems, but I know where you're coming from. The salon I used to work at sent someone home to change almost once a week.

the front desk represents your salon more than any other employee, the image they convey is very important, and should always be sophisticated and professional.

Why did you have to post this same question half a dozen times?
